Northern Beaches Skin Medics FAQ

How does it work?

Medical grade laser treatment uses innovative technology that targets specific conditions non-invasively on the face and the body, and with little discomfort and minimum downtime. The type of laser system you’ll be given based on your specific skin and what the research shows would achieve best results on a case by case basis, whether you’re wanting treatment for broken capillaries, sun damage and sun spots, redness, rosacea, or other skin concerns.

How many treatments will I need?

As you might appreciate, every patient’s needs are different. And the results depend on the severity of the condition and the area being treated. Appointments start at 15 minutes and can go up to one hour. However, most treatments can be performed in a 15-30 minute appointment.

You may start seeing results after your very first treatment. However, the results are often subtle and you may be advised that you need a course of treatments to obtain the best outcome. This will be disussed with you during your appointment and you and your clinician will work out a plan tailored to your specific needs.

Will it hurt?

The laser treatments performed are surprisingly comfortable. Although some heat can be felt by the patient, it is minimal and passes rapidly. No numbing cream is needed to perform these treatments and clients report very minimal, if any, discomfort.

How do I get started? Is there a free skin consultation?

A consultation with our skin and laser Clinician is $75.00.

What kind of laser will be used in my procedure?

Northern Beaches Skin Medics uses the Cutera Excel V medical grade laser system which uses both the 532 and 1064 wavelengths.

The device is equipped with contact cooling for patient comfort. This laser has proven to be extremely effective when treating vascular anomalies and hyperpigmentation conditions amongst others. The Cutera Excel V is backed by extensive Clinical data.

Can I get a rebate for my procedure?

Some treatable conditions may be eliglble for a Medicare rebate. Your clinician will discuss criteria and eligibility with you.

What will my recovery time be like?

Because the laser works under the surface of your skin, there’s no need to plan around downtime. You’ll find your recovery times are likely to be minimal if any, and mostly non-existent. The procedure itself is fast, only around 30-60 minutes and its non-invasive nature means you can pop in when it suits and go about your day when you leave, with no-one any the wiser as to your treatment.

Occasionally, and depending on the condition being treated, you might find you experience a little swelling, redness or flaking in the days following treatment. This is temporary and likely to subside within a few days.

The best thing you can do is follow your clinician’s instructions for looking after your skin and not exposing your body, particularly the treated area, to the sun.

How soon will I see results from my procedure?

It depends on the condition and size of areas you’re having treated. Some procedures continue to happen under your skin up to a month after your treatment; others will show results within a few hours. When you come in for your procedure, your doctor will be looking for a specific, observable clinical response which signals the endpoint of the procedure. This is commonly a change in colour in the skin being treated, but it might also be the disappearance of an affected vein.

Who will perform my procedure?

Lasers like the Cutera are medical grade and should only be used by trained medical professionals. To that end, at Northern Beaches Skin Medics, your procedure will be overseen by one of our qualified medical practitioners – our doctors who all have decades of experience in skin.
